The 2017 Kids Learn to Fly Fish program dates have been set! Jim Hibberd will be leading the program this year, supported by Dick Shinton. If you know of an 8-12 year old girl or boy who has an interest in fishing this is an outstanding program to get them involved that includes fly tying, stream entomology, and fishing. Contact Jim Hibberd or Dick Shinton to get them signed up.
All classroom / fly tying meetings will be held at the Lifebridge Christian Church, 10345 Ute Hwy, Longmont, CO 80504 in room# 207.
Feb 25 - Intro and fly tying session #1
March 11 - Fly tying session #2
March 25 - Fly Tying session #3
April 8 - Videos on entomology, flyfishing, conservation and TU presentation
April 22 - Bug seining on the Saint Vrain River
May 13 - fly fishing on a local pond
Eligibility: Boys and girls between ages 8 and 13 as of the first class session are eligible.
Cost: All supplies and materials are provided, and there is no charge for the class!
There is a limit of 12 participants. In past years, some kids have signed up only to miss the majority of the sessions because of conflicting activities. Because participation is limited, and applications always outstrip availability, if your child signs up, we expect him or her to attend every session, barring unforeseen circumstances, of course. A lot of work goes into preparation for the sessions, and a lot of volunteers make time to help; it's unfair to them and to the kids who were turned away. Contact Jim Hibberd (email) by February 20.
Adult or experienced kid volunteers are needed for each session. Volunteers for the three tying sessions need not be expert tyers; we tie very basic patterns. No special expertise is required for any other session; you only need to be interested in helping kids to learn our wonderful avocation. Contact Jim Hibberd via email .
