Kids Learn to Fly Fish is a 6-week introductory program for youth 8-13 years old. The goal of the program is to connect youth to our local streams through building fly fishing skills. Since 2008, more than 130 budding anglers have participated in this program. The program is led by Dick Shinton and Carma Feigal, and supported by volunteer assistants.
The Kids Learn to Fly Fish program introduces participants to basic concepts and techniques of fly fishing. Students can expect to learn how to tie standard fly patterns, identify trout habitat, identify trout diet and benthic macroinvertebrates, how to cast a fly rod, fish with flies they tie, and the role conservation plays in thriving trout streams.
Kids Learn to Fly Fish is co-sponsored by St. Vrain Anglers Chapter and Laughing Grizzly Fly Shop.
Maximum participation is 12 students, application deadline is Feb 1. Use the link below to sign up and reserve a spot. The 2024 classes are held at Faith Community Lutheran Church, Longmont from 8-noon, with the exception of the last day which will be held on Saint Vrain Creek.
